The Wedding Cake
It is just as important as the bride's gown. It is the centerpiece of the reception. There are a variety of styles to choose from. It just depends on how elaborate you want it to be.
Remember, you get what you pay for. If you want a fancy cake with all of the trimmings, it is going to cost you. Therefore, make sure that you know the price for all of the details that you want before ordering. Before you choose your cake, you need to learn some lingo.
Ganache--It is a sweet chocolate. It can be used for icing or filling.
Gum Paste--This is a paste made of sugar, corn starch and gelatin. It is used to make fruits and flowers for the cake.
Fondant--Sweet icing made up of sugar, corn syrup and gelatin. It is gives cakes a porcelain appearance.
Butter-cream--smooth icing made from butter. It will melt in humidity.
Piping--It is used to patterns on the cake around the borders. You use a pastry bag and various metal tips to apply them to the cake.
Great ways to showcase your cake.....
1- Select fine linen to place on the table with the cake. This should be coordinated with the colors of the bridal party.
2--Don't put the cake in back corner of the room. Make sure that it has a place of prominence so that everyone can appreciate its beauty.
3--Decorate the table that the cake is on. Consult with the bakery they may be able to help. If not, look for accessories that coordinate with the bridal and cake theme.
No matter which way you decide to go make sure that the cake designer is qualified to design the cake of your dreams. Don't forget to ask for a sampling session. Although it may not appear to be necessary, you would be surprised. There have been ocassions when the cake did not taste as good as it looked. You don't want a bad memory for such an important part of your special day.
